“Where is our share? - Family money drama”
Where is our share- Family money drama was a short lived weekly, reality combat show that producers had hoped would highlight real life altercations amongst extended Indian families. Renowned media mogul, Mohammed Wahlia conceived of the idea during a three years sabbatical in America, at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. With a hope to make an impactful television comeback, Wahlia’s production team finalized the concept by having distant relatives threaten extended family members from overseas with cricket bats and machetes as they visit their ancestral homes, in the hope to extort money. The show was popular and well received, however due to steady cost increases of the production from skyrocketing legal fees, and “private subsidies” to local law enforcement, the program moved to a monthly format for 3 episodes, eventually wrapping up production after it’s fifteen episode run.
“Dial “M” for Mumbai”
Dial M for Mumbai is a documentary series that depicts the everyday lives of recent university graduates employed at the Wilson-Jones call center, a branch owned by American business men, and former pro basketball stars, Cody Wilson, and Josiah Jones. It aired on Indian Syndication television for two and a half seasons. The series was filmed in a single camera set-up with all employees mic’d up. The only area in the workspace without audio was in the owners office, where they would been seen through a glass window, frequently berating their employees. The show followed these employees as they unknowingly run an insurance scam over the phone, to swindle elderly people in North America of their personal savings. The series almost ended after the first season, when both Wilson and Jones had both been arrested by Interpol, as documented during the show in a drug fuelled and violent season finale. The remainder of the show saw less drama and dwindling viewership, when the call center business was purchased by telephone psychic, Madame Oishi. She was criticized for her lack of charisma, and had a tendency to ruin the climax of each episode with her clairvoyance during the prologue. In an effort to add some friction and drama to the workspace, the producers convinced Oishi to partner with a Sicilian Mob Boss in the final season, quickly shutting down the business due to legal entanglements with the partnership that needed to be sorted out.
